About This Journey

Greetings! I'm Tina, and I'm here to share a bit of my journey with you. Back in 2012, I made a bold decision to undergo what's commonly known as a "big chop." This involved cutting off all the damaged or relaxed hair, leaving only my natural hair behind. I vividly recall the moment I took those scissors to my hair, realizing I had about 4 inches left afterward. It was a leap into the unknown, fueled by inspiration from YouTube tutorials and a determination to embrace my natural beauty.

Reflecting on the state of my hair at the time, it's clear it was in dire need of some TLC. March 8, 2012, marked the day I took matters into my own hands. Armed with shampoo, conditioner, and trusty scissors, I embarked on a transformation journey. With each snip, a mix of shock and pride coursed through me. The initial fear melted away, replaced by a sense of empowerment. After all, I reasoned, I rarely wore my natural hair out anyway – opting instead for weaves and wigs – so why not make the change?

In the following months and years, I embraced protective styles like crochets, weaves, and wigs while my natural hair grew out. Though I've since reduced my reliance on these styles, they still serve as occasional options for switching up my look or safeguarding my hair's health.

The image you see is a testament to my journey, capturing the results of a big chop and subsequent trims. Fed up with salon visits that left my hair damaged and my progress stunted, I took matters into my own hands. Through experimentation and determination, I developed my hair oil – a nourishing blend designed to stimulate the scalp, infuse strands with vital nutrients, and provide the moisture our hair craves. Before-and-after photos stand as a testament to its efficacy.

My message to you? Don't fear the journey – embrace it. Despite its challenges, my hair transformation has been nothing short of transformative, teaching me invaluable lessons.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

faqs

Q. How does the boiler method work for the shea butter?

A. You ake a small pot and fill it halfway with water. You take either a glass bowl or another small pot and place it ontop of the pot of water, then add a tablespoon or more to the top bowl/pot and allow to melt.

Q. How long did it take to decide on the big chop and what were the benefits?

A. Before I did the big chop it, took me about a year to decide if it was really what I wanted to do but, looking back, I wish I would have done it sooner. It just feel great to see your natural hair and learn about the pattern of your curls. It will be lots of trial and error but, stick with it, try different products, buy samples before investing in so many different products to see what works.

Q. My hair is dry, can I use the butter in my hair?

A> You may be able to, the butter I use for moisturizing mostly, nevertheless, I have melted the butter to twist my have after it had been shampooed and conditioned and my hair loved it. I did not use it to style it, only for moisturizing before adding other products to it, like Cantu pudding or eco styler gel..

Q. How long did it take your hair to grow after the big chop?

A. 3 months to see good growth. I had crochets put in and allowed it to grow out.
